Liverpool has picked up its third win in the competition this season, as it delivered a big 5-1 victory over Toulouse in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday. Manager Jurgen Klopp fielded a youthful line-up and their new signings did not disappoint. Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch got on the board with Gravenberch receiving some added praise from Klopp.
The match at Anfield saw Liverpool’s young stars impress as new signing Ryan Gravenberch made the difference. Speaking after the game, Klopp paid tribute to the 21-year-old midfielder, who joined the club for £35 million earlier in the summer, after his all-round display that included Gravenberch’s first Liverpool goal.
Klopp’s words of support for Gravenberch were very encouraging as he singled out an incredible first touch, pace with the ball at his feet and strength in confined spaces, but felt Gravenberch is still only just getting started, with a noticeable potential for further improvement beyond. Gravenberch looks set to be a superstar for the Reds with the manager’s assessment .
Liverpool’s Diogo Jota opened the scoring only nine minutes in with a splendid strike, and he proved it was the Reds who dominated early. Toulouse pulled back just two minutes later when Thijs Dalinga broke the offside trap, but Liverpool took charge shortly thereafter. A Wataru Endo header from a pinpoint Trent Alexander-Arnold cross was followed by a Darwin Nunez goal four minutes later to give Liverpool a firm grip on the match.
Gravenberch added to the score line in the second half, as well, and Mohamed Salah iced the win off the bench, hitting a powerful long-range effort that cannoned off the crossbar before finding the back of the net.
Afterwards, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his happiness with the result, pointing towards his side’s overall control of the game, some wonderful goals and their ability to incorporate a number of the club’s younger players for the afternoon, showcasing the trust they have in their young talent.
Such a victory not only shows off Liverpool’s depth but is only another signal that Ryan Gravenberch has a bright, bright future in Liverpool red, as he’s made quite the mark since arriving at the club. For the rest of the season, it’s hard to imagine anyone wouldn’t be eager to see him pop up again in a Liverpool match day squad.
