Arsenal’s young sensation, Bukayo Saka, took a stroll down memory lane in an exclusive interview with TNT Sports, expressing his gratitude towards former manager Unai Emery for providing him with a pivotal breakthrough in his career.
“I can never forget him – he’s the one that gave me my debut,” said Saka in an interview with Laura Woods on TNT Sports’ show ‘In My Blood.’ “He gave me that moment and gave me a lot of confidence as well. He was a really nice man and a really nice coach, and I enjoyed my time under him.”
Saka fondly reminisced about his debut for the Arsenal first team, which took place during a UEFA Europa League group-stage clash against Vorskla Poltava in November 2018. Emery, who also handed Saka his Premier League debut, played a crucial role in shaping the forward’s early career at the club.
Despite Emery’s departure from Arsenal after 18 months in charge, Saka has continued to flourish under current manager Mikel Arteta. The young forward praised Arteta for his straightforward approach and expressed gratitude for the belief and trust the coach has placed in him.
“I think he was straight down to business [when he first arrived],” said Saka about Arteta. “I just felt the belief he had in me, the confidence, the amount of games he was playing me, so I was like: ‘Okay, he really trusts me, so I need to repay it.'”
The interview shed light on Saka’s journey from Emery’s era to Arteta’s reign and the impact both managers have had on his development. Saka acknowledged the significance of wearing the captain’s armband during Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Sheffield United, a moment he described as “really special” and emphasized that the armband has a place of honor in his room.
As Arsenal prepares to face Crystal Palace, the interview provided insights into Saka’s perspective on key victories, including the Community Shield triumph over Manchester City. With nine goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season, Saka has not only showcased his on-field prowess but also highlighted the personal moments that have defined his remarkable journey at Arsenal.
